Accommodations: AirBnB – The apartment was nothing fancy but met our needs — small but clean and inexpensive. There were a lot of mosquitos outside (it was August) so we couldn’t sit out much. The host Jordan was very helpful and explained all the great things in the area! He truly made the stay wonderful.
Transportation: Rental Car from Enterprise at Tampa International Airport
Day 1: Honeymoon Island + Dunedin Brewery
First, we kicked off the day with a beach day trip to Honeymoon Island. We hit the Nature Trails first, then relaxed and hunted for seashells on North Beach. Be sure to take water, sunscreen, and snacks! Afterwards, we stopped at the Knot on Main to browse the shop and had dinner + craft brews later at Dunedin Brewery.
Day 2: Hammock Park, Clearwater Beach + The Bait House
We began the day on the trails at Hammock Park. Be sure to put on sunscreen + bug spray. Then, we ventured down to Clearwater Beach. Parking can be tricky — here is a helpful link. We had a picnic lunch on the beach. For dinner, we went to the Bait House.
Day 3: Kayaking + Downtown Dunedin
We rented a tandem kayak at Sail Honeymoon along the Dunedin Causeway (check Groupon for possible deals!) and kayaked over to Caladesi Island. There’s a trail through the mangroves at the entrance to the marina at marker 8. You can also kayak around the island past the north tip to the end of the beach where there are beautiful palms along the shore + lots of seashells. It’s the Gulf though, so be careful to stay close to shore! We also saw dolphins. Afterwards, we explored the shops in Downtown Dunedin. We had dinner at Pan Y Vino and dessert at Strachan’s Ice Cream. The sunset is beautiful from the Dunedin Marina and from Hubbard Park along the water.
Day 4: Botanical Gardens, Casa Tina’s + Honeymoon Island
Day 5: Weaver Park, Caladesi Island, Draught House and Soggy Bottom + Sunset at Weaver Park
We started the day with a workout at the outdoor fitness area at Weaver Park + a walk along the Pinellas Trail which runs past Weaver Park. Then, we headed to Honeymoon Island and took the ferry to Caladesi Island. It’s the perfect place for seashells and nature. Then after getting cleaned up, we headed to the Clear Sky Draught Haus for happy hour (it’s great on weekdays!) and Soggy Bottom Brewery afterwards to sample some more craft brews. After meandering around downtown a bit more, we finished the day at Weaver Park watching the sunset from the pier.
